Skin Resurfacing Treatments Milton

A young woman before and after skin resurfacing treatment.

Do you look in the mirror and find dull, uneven skin? Do you wish you could get rid of skin imperfections like acne scars, sun spots, and wrinkles?

Age, health problems, and environmental conditions leave their marks on the face. But you can get back your youthful glow with skin resurfacing treatments.

These non-surgical treatments can dramatically improve skin texture, tightness, and complexion. Mild, non-ablative procedures handle minor problems, while ablative treatments tackle more severe issues.

You can choose from a wide range of skin resurfacing Milton offers for various skin types. If you want to give your skin a natural glow-up with these treatments, keep reading!

Skin Resurfacing Treatments Milton: What Are They?

Skin resurfacing treatments use light or laser technology to improve skin health and appearance. Lasers remove damaged outer layer of skin and induce collagen production for smoother and firmer skin.

Treatments are tailored to handle individual skin conditions, targeting specific sections. Meanwhile, the surrounding tissues remain intact and enhance the healing process.

Ablative treatments remove the epidermis or top layer and heat the underlying dermis for collagen remodeling. Thus, it’s an aggressive approach that treats more severe conditions and needs a longer recovery time.

Non-ablative laser treatments cause controlled injury beneath the skin surface, promoting cellular renewal and collagen production. They address mild conditions without removing the top layers, letting you resume normal activities faster.

Conditions Treated by Skin Resurfacing Treatments

Skin conditions that can be addressed by skin resurfacing treatments include:

  • Acne/chickenpox scars (mild/moderate)
  • Age spots
  • Birthmarks
  • Blemishes and scars
  • Damaged skin from sun exposure
  • Crow’s feet
  • Enlarged oil glands on the nose
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Liver spots
  • Non-responsive skin post-facelift
  • Loose skin
  • Uneven texture
  • Uneven tone and pigmentation
  • Warts

However, facial skin has severe scarring, extreme sagging, deep wrinkles, etc., won’t see magical results. The skin tightening and brightening from laser resurfacing works on mild and moderate conditions only.

Types of Skin Resurfacing Treatments

When you opt for skin resurfacing, you can choose from a range of non-invasive cosmetic procedures. The types of skin resurfacing treatments include the following:

CO2 Laser Resurfacing

This ablative treatment uses short and precise pulsed light energy to remove thin skin layers. The concentrated light beams vaporize the damaged areas. It treats wrinkles, scars, warts, enlarged pores, birthmarks, etc.

Fractional Laser Resurfacing

This treatment uses extremely short pulsed light (ultrapulse) or continuous light beams penetrating deeper. It minimizes heat damage to narrow columns for faster recovery. It boosts collagen production for skin tightening.

Erbium Laser Resurfacing

This ablative treatment uses Er:YAG lasers to remove surface layers. The damage to the surrounding tissues is minimal, reducing side effects and recovery time. The risks of discoloration are also low, making it ideal for darker skin.

Neodymium Yag Laser Resurfacing

This non-ablative option uses Nd:YAG laser emissions of a longer wavelength. It treats conditions like facial hair growth, acne, hyperpigmentation, and vascular issues. It produces minimal heat and is ideal for darker skin tones.

Pulse-Dye (Vascular) Laser Resurfacing

This non-ablative procedure uses concentrated yellow light to treat conditions caused by blood vessels. It produces heat absorbed by the pigments. It reduces redness, hyperpigmentation, broken capillaries, and rosacea symptoms.

Intense Pulsed Light Resurfacing

IPL uses bursts of light energy to treat skin conditions. So, it’s not a laser energy procedure, unlike most resurfacing procedures. It’s effective in treating scarring, sun damage, stretch marks, hyperpigmentation, etc. unwanted hair, etc.

What to Expect from Skin Resurfacing Treatments

Skin resurfacing treatments have various approaches, and the results vary according to skin types, tones, and conditions.

Preparing for Skin Resurfacing:

Before the treatment, you must do the following:

  • Consult a dermatologist and your condition, medical history, etc, during the initial consultation.
  • Stop medications/supplements that affect clotting 10 days before the session.
  • Avoid sun exposure and use sunscreen 4 weeks before the treatment.
  • Stop smoking and drinking 2 weeks in advance.
  • Take antiviral medicines if you’re prone to cold sores.
  • Stop retinol use 2-4 weeks pre-treatment.
  • Avoid chemical peels/lasers for 4 weeks.
  • Stop photosensitizing medicines 72 hours in advance.

What Happens During the Treatment?

The number of sessions required depends on the treatment and skin condition. Each session takes 30-45 minutes for individual spots and around 2 hours for the full face.

These are outpatient procedures that don’t need overnight monitoring. Small treatment areas are generally treated with local anesthesia and sometimes, sedation, while whole-face treatments need general anesthesia.

What Happens After the Treatment?

While you’ll see changes after the first treatment session, you must undergo all recommended sessions for the most effective treatment. Depending on the treatment, you may need 10-21 days to heal.

Side Effects After Treatment:

Common side effects include:

  • Mild redness and swelling
  • Itching or stinging sensation for up to 72 hours
  • Dryness and peeling for up to a week

Post-Treatment Care:

For quick recovery and optimal results, follow the post-care instructions given by your dermatologist. Also, do the following:

  • Apply ointment on the treated area to prevent scabs.
  • Sleep on an extra pillow to reduce discomfort.
  • Use cool compresses or ice packs to reduce swelling and redness.
  • Use broad-spectrum sunscreen daily and avoid sun exposure.
  • Use proper cleansing and moisturizing products.
  • Avoid cosmetics till your skin heals.
